Our History

Hellenbrand, Inc. is one of the leading manufacturers of water treatment systems in the United States; but we come from a modest foundation.

Jim Hellenbrand Picture 1In 1967 Jim & Florence Hellenbrand embarked on a business adventure with Florence managing the household duties which included five children under the age of ten and Jim manufacturing his own line of water treatment equipment; better, more reliable units than what was available on the market, supported with his personal after the sale service which was second to none.  Jim's market was primarily plumbing contractors and wholesale houses that served the retail market, all of whom relied on a robust housing market.

Prior to this, Jim Hellenbrand worked for a water treatment company and saw the opportunity to build a sales organization and tap into the rental market for domestic water treatment equipment.

Jim Hellenbrand Picture 2In just seven short years, the company outgrew its second location and built a 6,000 square foot building located at 509 W. Main Street, Waunakee, WI, which today houses their retail and service operation the Hellenbrand Water Center.  Jim and Florence’s seven children put in their time at the family business, answering phones, building equipment, learning the service and installation aspects of the equipment, sales, customer service, and office duties involved in running a business.  In the middle 1980's Hellenbrand began to build equipment for water treatment dealers and expanded into the commercial market place.

Hellenbrand Water Center Location PictureBy 1991 Hellenbrand had outgrown their 6,000 square foot facility and built a new 15,000 square foot facility and started Hellenbrand Inc., manufacturing facility.  Early in 1994, Jeff, Terry and Paul Hellenbrand purchased the business from their parents and they have continued to grow and expand the business with the same sound business fundamentals their parents taught them.

In the mid ‘90’s Terry Hellenbrand searched for a better filtering system and in 1992 received a patent for the Iron Curtain System™; this technology is among the simplest, most economical and effective filters for the removal of iron, sulfur (rotten egg odor) and manganese from water.  The Iron Curtain is the best solution the industry has to offer.  The Iron Curtain has opened the door for Hellenbrand Inc., to do business with water treatment dealers throughout North America.

Going forward, Hellenbrand Inc., is looking to expand and is poised for continued success and growth with the upcoming addition to our product line, an environmentally friendly unit that will conserve water and lower your salt usage.

Jim Hellenbrand founded Hellenbrand Water Conditioners, Inc. in August of 1967. With a focus on quality service and technical expertise, Hellenbrand rapidly outgrew their original location at 203 West Main Street in Waunakee, Wisconsin.
